Self-Archiving Service

In addition to publications in a scientific journal, your closed access publications can usually also be made openly available (Green Open Access) via our institutional repositories. Self-archiving increases the visibility of your research and leads to more citations.

As part of our self-archiving service, we check for you whether and from what point in time the respective publishers allow the uploading of the author accepted manuscript (AAM) or the publisher's publication and then contact you. In accordance with the provisions of the secondary publication right under §38 (4) of the German Copyright Act (UrhG), publications that appear in a collection published at least twice a year may also be made publicly available in the accepted manuscript version 12 months after their initial publication.

Institutional Repositories

Self-archiving via the institutional repository GFZpublic:

  • Send us your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) directly to openaccess@gfz.de.
  • The Library takes care of everything else: Review and comply with legal requirements, revise the final draft, publish.
In cases where open publication is not possible, the text is stored in the internal archive.
  • Metadata and full text are found by relevant search engines. When compiling literature lists, e.g. for your websites, the relevant information is generated.

Self-archiving via the PIK Publication Database:

  • Send your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) directly to the Library.
  • The Library is taking care of checking the legal requirements, preparing the AAM and publishing it via the publication database.
  • The accepted manuscript version can be found via search engines in addition to the publisher's version.

Secondary Publications via the Publication Database:

  • Upload your Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) to ePIC.
