Please note our current information on the use of the library in times of Corona via:

If you want to work in our library and use our collection on-site, you don’t have to register.

We recommend that employees from GFZ, PIK, AWI and IASS get a library card, so they can use the following services:

  • Borrow items from the library
  • Reserve books & extend loan periods easily via your library account
  • Electronic document delivery
  • 24h access to the library

If you are not affiliated with GFZ, PIK, AWI or IASS, you are still welcome to use the library, but with limited access to our stock and services.

How can I become user in the library?

In order to register in our library, we need your contact details. Here you can print and fill out the >application form<. You can bring the form to us in person, send a scan or send it to the library via the internal mail. You will get a library card with a user number.

The validity of your library card depends on the duration of your contract with AWI, GFZ, IASS and PIK. We delete the library account and destroy the signed registration form 2 years after the expiration date. If you are still interested in borrowing books or ordering interlibrary loans, you can simply extend the account (bib(at), Tel. -1673).

External users also require a valid identity card or passport in connection with the police registration confirmation.

By registering in the library, you agree to our terms of use (German only).

Can I borrow books from AWI, PIK or IASS with my library card?

You can use your card at all branches. External user have limited access to our stock. Please turn to our staff or write us an email to bib(at)
